¿Cómo trabaja Nutrin Conin? El Centro que combate la desnutrición infantil en Santa Rosa

Los integrantes del centro están preocupados por la falta de recursos ya que los medios por los que se sustentan –ferias y polladas, entre otros- no se desarrollaron producto de las restricciones que impone la pandemia. El trabajo con las madres. La articulación con otras áreas. Y “llegar a tiempo”, el gran desafió para que niñas y niños santarroseños crezcan sin las consecuencias irreversibles que generan la falta de nutrientes.

“Cuando empezamos a trabajar pensamos que acá no íbamos a encontrar desnutrición, pero con el correr del tiempo nos dimos cuenta que sí había niños con desnutrición en Santa Rosa”, cuenta, en conversación con Revista BIFE, la coordinadora del Centro Nutrin Conin, Silvia Ilari.

Nutrin Conin funciona en la capital pampeana hace poco más de 10 años. Es una Asociación Civil sin fines de lucro que se dedica exclusivamente a prevenir la desnutrición infantil, y a capacitar a las madres -o responsables de los niños-con diversos talleres y actividades de estimulación cognitiva.

Atienden semanalmente un promedio de 35 niños de entre 45 días y 4 años, que es la edad biológica en la que todavía se pueden recuperar los daños físicos y cognitivos originados por la falta de nutrientes. Por eso hacen hincapié en “llegar a tiempo”, ya que, como explican, el cerebro logra el 80% de su peso final en los primeros 2 años, y si la estimulación y alimentación no son suficientes, el crecimiento se detiene con consecuencias irreversibles. “Si no lo resolvimos antes de los 4 años el futuro de ese niño ya está marcado. La desnutrición genera que el desarrollo cerebral no sea el adecuado. Con todo lo que generan las condiciones de pobreza”, explica Ilari. 

De esta manera, llevan adelante un riguroso programa que empieza por determinar si el niño o niña padece de desnutrición leve, moderada o grave. “En general muchos de nuestros niños padecen desnutrición leve, pero hemos tenido situaciones de niños con desnutrición moderada y grave. El criterio de ingreso al Centro es: niño menor de 4 años con algún grado de desnutrición, y embarazadas con grado de desnutrición o malnutrición y vulnerabilidad social. En estos últimos años se ha incrementado el ingreso por motivo de vulnerabilidad social, lo cual no significa que no haya desnutrición”, asegura Ilari, kinesióloga de profesión.

Si no lo resolvimos antes de los 4 años el futuro de ese niño ya está marcado. La desnutrición genera que el desarrollo cerebral no sea el adecuado

“El 60% de los niños con los que trabajamos tienen afectación de talla, significa que no tiene la altura que tendrían que tener. Eso es una consecuencia directa de la desnutrición. Es el mayor porcentaje de niños que tenemos. Esto se llama desnutrición crónica, es decir, que en algún momento de su vida hubo desnutrición, que pudo haber sido durante la gestación o en los primeros años de vida”, comenta.

A través de la articulación con diferentes organizaciones sociales y centros de salud de barrios, personas con extrema vulnerabilidad social son derivadas a Nutrin Conin. Allí, se realiza una evaluación de Desarrollo Psicomotor para determinar el trabajo que van a realizar con el niño y con las madres. Los niños permanecen en el jardín maternal, coordinado por una maestra jardinera y asistida por voluntarios. Las madres participan de diferentes talleres de Oficio (cocina, manualidades, costura, huerta), de Estimulación Cognitica y de Educación para la Salud, a cargo de los profesionales del equipo.

“Muchas veces nos pasa que recibimos un niño con desnutrición, pero que en el contexto la familia tiene ciertos recursos y con algo de ayuda resuelven  pronto la situación de ingreso, de modo que el alta puede ser más rápido que en otras situaciones mucho más complejas. Sin embargo, el grandísimo problema es la falta de trabajo. Aunque también nos ha pasado que la mamá resuelve la situación porque encuentra trabajo. Otras veces recomendamos a madres. Hay empresas que confían en nosotros y les dan trabajo. Además, a través de los talleres les damos recursos y herramientas para que puedan tener algún ingreso económico”, señala la coordinadora de Nutrin Conin Santa Rosa.

En general acá hay leve, pero hemos tenido situaciones de desnutrición grave

Por año el Centro entrega alrededor de 1200 kilos de leche entera en polvo, y más de 900 bolsones de alimentos. Además, cuentan con consultorios de pediatría, nutrición, desarrollo infantil y trabajo social, más allá del espacio para talleres y del jardín maternal. Asimismo, se han planteado un objetivo para el presente año: finalizar la primera etapa de la sede propia, que permitirá ampliar la tarea de prevención, sobre todo en estos momentos de pandemia en donde el protocolo requiere de lugares espaciados.

“Mientras el centro de prevención desarrolla sus tareas se está construyendo una obra importante, para atender a más familias que lo necesitan porque en este momento las familias lo necesitan. Ahora el espacio con el que contamos es reducido y no hemos podido retomar talleres con las mamás ni  el Jardín,  por el protocolo requerido para cada caso. Hoy  estamos sosteniendo el trabajo de consultorios, la entrega de leche y alimentos  y La entrega de los textos se realiza de forma impresa, el día que la mamá o adulto responsable asiste al control de su/s niño/s, porque de manera virtual no es fácil para estas familias”.

Durante la pandemia, si bien los números de pobreza han aumentado estrepitosamente, en Nutrin Conin han atendido a menos niños que en otros años: pasaron de trabajar con 35 nenes y nenas a 20 en este momento. “Este último tiempo se disminuyó un poco porque no hubo control de niños sanos, o por el peligro de que las familias se acerquen a Salud cuando están enfocados en el Covid”, explica.

En estos últimos años se ha incrementado el ingreso por motivo de vulnerabilidad social, lo cual no significa que no haya desnutrición

¿Cómo detectan los casos más vulnerables? “En febrero hicimos campaña de difusión para madres embarazadas y nenes pequeños, pusimos afiches en los centros de salud, y fuimos recibiendo derivaciones. El tiempo que venimos trabajando en Villa Germinal coordinamos con las distintas organizaciones. El más importante fue con el centro de salud de este barrio. También recibimos derivaciones de Zona Norte, del barrio Aeropuerto, del mismo hospital Lucio Molas. También, familias que pasan por el centro se los comentan a otras personas”.

“Tenemos claro cuál es nuestra tarea: nosotros nos ocupamos de la desnutrición, pero es muy complejo todo lo que las familias atraviesan, por ello  poder ir gestionando alianzas, con otras organizaciones, instituciones de salud, educativas, de protección de derechos y también con los gobiernos, es muy positivo”, comenta la profesional.  

¿De qué manera se sostienen? “Por la pandemia no se pudieron hacer eventos, que es la manera que tenemos de recaudar. Nos sostenemos con feria de ropas y pollada, y esos dos eventos no se pudieron hacer. Y hay empresas y personas que colaboran. El 90% son personas voluntarias. Desde talleres hasta cuestiones del jardín maternal. Sin el voluntario el trabajo de Conin no podría funcionar. Además, la cuota societaria es la principal que tenemos ”, finaliza Silvia Ilari en conversación con Revista BIFE.
