El cronista viajó a Venezuela y retrató la realidad del país caribeño desde diferentes ángulos. Hoy, las diferentes características de las personas que integran el chavisismo, narrado a través de un encuentro nocturno entre “panas” bebiendo ron. Las últimas entregas de Cangrejo en Retirada.

El taxi lo manejaba uno de esos negros de dentadura más blanca que la tiza. “Hace dos años había que hacer cola para transitar en esta avenida, ahora mira como se anda“, dijo. Me dejó en un sitio donde dos personas chavistas conversaban, frente a un árbol y sobre el alboroto de los loros que se escuchan puntualmente a las siete de la tarde. Los loros son los únicos seres vivos puntuales en Venezuela porque, como en Cuba, decir “vente para aquí a las siete de la tarde” es sinónimo de “estoy listo a las 11 de la noche”.

Estaba una mujer mayor edad, que vive el día a día, con algo de sensibilidad social, y otra, joven, con muchos recursos, refiriéndose a los pobres como “un problema cultural”.

Fuimos a un mercado, de clase media, estaba concurrido, “panas” tomando cerveza en la vereda. De ahí nos trasladamos hacia la casa recién comprada de la joven. Me dijo que la disculpara, que la casa aún no estaba amueblada. Ella, además de ser funcionaria (está en un programa de misiones de alimentos en los barrios), se dedica a la ganadería. 

Estábamos, de alguna forma, acompañandola porque hacían pocos días habían enterrado a su hermano. Fue asesinado por un policía de un disparo en la cabeza cuando intervino en una discusión ajena por una mujer.

Estábamos reunidos en un largo y bello jardín, bajo las estrellas y entre una suave brisa. Delante nuestro había una palmera gigante y a su costado una “piscina”. Tomábamos anís y Ron “Santa Teresa”  -el mejor del mundo-, y escuchábamos música mientras conversábamos amenamente.

A la reunión llegaron dos jóvenes. Eran policías pero estaban vestidos de civil, como para salir de “rumba”. Uno de rojo y otro de blanco. El de blanco, de cara redonda como una tapa de empanada, tenía un arma que sobresalía del jean. Quizá era reglamentaria, como la que tenía el otro policía cuando asesinó al hermano de la anfitriona hace unos días. 

Este, de rostro perfectamente circular, la llevaba colgada de su pantalón, como un “malandro”, y cuando terminó de saludar a todos, la escondió debajo de su chomba blanca, como quien se mide el aparato reproductor y al quedarse corto precisa de otra herramienta para fijar su masculinidad.

Me dijo que Argentina tal cosa, que en Venezuela las mujeres, que en Venezuela la música, las playas; que Venezuela lo mejor. Le pregunté por qué se estaban yendo tantos compatriotas. Me dijo que les hacen creer que afuera van a estar mejor, y agarró mi bolsa de tabaco para ver si era marihuana.

(Acá, además de estar penalizada, son muy estrictos cuando detectan un fumón -click-. Generalmente te sacan mucho dinero y si no, te meten en cana, te pasean por distintas dependencias, te sacan más dinero y todas las situaciones que pueden ocurrir en una prisión).

Yo observaba la composición de la reunión: mujer de 60, clase media media baja, fue guerrillera, es militante, discurso revolucionario. Joven ganadera, funcionaria, discurso conservador, idealista del lujo, cierto desprecio a los pobres (“si no tienen para comer, ¿por que beben?”, o “cuando van a las hermosas playas, las arruinan”). Joven policía, “huevon”, reaccionario y fanfarrón. Joven trabajadora de PDVSA, asqueada de la corrupción.  

Veía esto, entre más personas, y pensaba que, como cualquier movimiento de masas, el chavismo es muy diverso. ¡Y sí que es diverso!

He hablado con nazis que piensan que el problema de la delincuencia se soluciona con paredón o extirpandole un lóbulo a hijos de delincuentes pobres. Con idealistas que siguen soñando con alcanzar el socialismo. Con personas fuertemente éticas y comprometidas, que dejan su juventud por el proceso. Con tipos que consiguen productos baratos y los revenden a precios exorbitantes a personas necesitadas. Con gente que no cree en la democracia, que reivindican a Stalin por su resistencia frente al asedio internacional y su proceso de industrialización. Con gente que sufre internamente graves contradicciones. Con gente que sí cree en la democracia y se asquea cuando se vulneran las instituciones. Con gente rica, con gente pobre, con universitarios ideologizados, con lúmpenes que no son ni de derecha ni de izquierda pero están cerca del poder.

El chavismo es diverso, es un movimiento en el que conviven muchas fracciones, como en el peronismo. Pero se los aseguro: acá el contraste entre unos y otros es superior. Muy superior.
