Génesis y estructura de la fenomenología netflixera

Netflix es la simplificación magistral de la imagen y el argumento, entrega el tema a sus espectadores ya-interpretado, ahorrándoles el considerable desgaste de interrogar y relacionar.

En 1895 los Lumière grabaron la primera imagen en movimiento, los trabajadores saliendo de la fábrica, en el segundo intento crearon el cine, apenas desplazando su invención unos pocos metros. Ese brevísimo desplazamiento delataba la existencia de una conciencia artística capaz de reflexionar sobre los elementos básicos constituyentes de la nueva forma narrativa.

Desde entonces hasta Netflix todo ha cambiado. Hoy existen Netflix y sus confundidos esbirros, que por ver tanta película y serie mala creen haber desarrollado la capacidad del juicio crítico. Hoy abundan los especialistas en cine, en cada persona que tiene Netflix hay uno. Ignoran la existencia de Béla Tarr pero recomiendan a diestra y siniestra con la autoridad sacra con la que han sido investidos por su cuota mensual. Discuten los Oscars como si en ello les fuera la vida, pero si uno les habla de The criterion collection responden que a esa serie no la han visto. Las películas en blanco y negro los aburren, son lentas. Las imágenes demoradas de Tarkovsky, donde se encierran no ya mil, sino millones de palabras, donde conviven la tragedia, la comedia, el amor y el odio, pasan como carencia de ideas del autor. Los Netflixeros podrían romper el record del Louvre, lo tiene un norteamericano que lo recorrió en seis minutos y treinta y seis segundos, a una velocidad próxima a la que pueden alcanzar los venados en huida. Prefieren las coloridas animaciones de Disney que, por supuesto, dicen, no son películas infantiles, sino que tienen un alto contenido humano. Sin embargo, dejan escapar lo siguiente: “Quiero ver una película para pasar el rato, quiero desconectarme y no pensar”, como si el resto del día lo pasaran leyendo La cuádruple raíz del principio de razón suficiente de Schopenhauer. La categoría “películas para pasar el rato” es digna del análisis más riguroso, ya que revela los deseos inconscientes de quienes la utilizan, que son legión.

Una película para pasar el rato no exige esfuerzo, parece brindar el placer en su estado puro. El Netflixero la mira mientras revisa su teléfono como mira, en realidad, todas las películas. Así les llega el placer, como una droga que los alivia de los pesares humanos que conciernen la angustia de existir pensando. Si ser humano consiste en cuestionarse y cuestionar la realidad, ellos están mejor en su sillón o en su cama olvidando como reptiles al sol. No saben que, como dijo Colón, según Carpentier, en la vida hay que pecar de todo menos de pereza. Para los Netflixeros pensar es aburrido y agotador, nada como la divertida pasividad de las piedras.

Uno podría haber creído hasta la aparición de Netflix que el cine era la salvación del arte, ya que la brevedad de excelentes películas como La jetée de Chris Maker o Charlotte et son Jules de Godard podían ser aprovechadas por los que no tienen demasiado tiempo para cultivarse, un poder parecido al de la poesía, pero no, no era el tiempo el problema, ya que los Netflixeros pueden consumir sus sedantes durante horas ininterrumpidas. Amanecen ojerosos al otro día con la convicción de que Quentin Tarantino es el director más grande de todos los tiempos, seguido de cerca por Wes Anderson. Han visto Pulp fiction tres o cuatro veces, porque incluso a los netflixeros cierta intuición los obliga moralmente a un pequeño esfuerzo. Pero si ser cinéfilo consiste en coleccionar películas de Tarantino y juzgar sobre la estética de The grand Budapest hotel entonces para ser carpintero alcanza con diferenciar un árbol de una columna de cemento. Una frase que comparten mucho los Netflixeros en Facebook es la siguiente: “La mente crea problemas donde no los hay, aprende a controlarla”. Claro, ellos no quieren problemas, quieren soluciones, películas y series solucionadas, una realidad sin conflictos, donde todo sea evidente, obvio, y Netflix se los brinda amablemente. Pasan por alto el hecho de que la única función de la mente es, justamente, crear problemas donde no los hay, complejizar lo que creemos verdad hasta descubrirlo en su falsedad. Si las mentes (algunas) no se tomaran el tiempo de crear problemas entonces el sol seguiría girando alrededor de la tierra. Netflix es la simplificación magistral de la imagen y el argumento, entrega el tema a sus espectadores ya-interpretado, ahorrándoles el considerable desgaste de interrogar y relacionar. La mitad de los Netflixeros son progresistas en todos los campos, ¿no encuentran sospechoso que la otra mitad sean macristas, antiabortistas, católicos, machistas, fascistas? Yo nunca escuché a un macrista versar sobre Fassbinder o El caballo de Turín.

Borges decía que la ficción tenía la responsabilidad de ser verosímil, pero la realidad no. Los Netflixeros viven la realidad pura, porque la coherencia narrativa para ellos, como si oyeran llover. No saben que, como avisaba Raymond Chandler, si un policial de enigma se resuelve con una serpiente venenosa que trepa doce pisos de un edificio y se mete por la ventana hasta matar el hombre, la historia es mala. Mientras la pantalla cumpla con la extensión y la nitidez, ¿qué importa la prolija resolución del conflicto? No por esto, empero, se abstienen de bautizar a las películas como buenas o malas, siendo las malas las que no concuerdan con su netflixera subjetividad, si es que puede llamarse subjetivo al juicio-espejo compartido por una amplia mayoría.

Esta noche los Netflixeros dormirán exhaustos con la conciencia tranquila porque han incrementado su erudición, han aprendido historia con Vikingos, de política con House of cards, de ciencia con Morty y no sé quién y a ser irónicos con el dibujito del caballo que habla.
