El pampeano que dio la vuelta con Diego en el Azteca

Detalles del día en que José “Lungo” Álvarez fue testigo del comienzo de la leyenda de Diego. Su amistad con otro pampeano, arquero y gastronómico en México que le posibilitó estar a centimetros del “genio del fútbol mundial” mientras hacía historia.
“Salté desde un muro de cemento, caí dentro del campo y corrÍ hasta el centro del terreno donde festejaban los jugadores”.

“Recuerdo que fuimos temprano al estadio, a eso de las 10.30 hs. estábamos en la cola para entrar ya que el partido comenzaba a las 12. El estadio era una caldera humana, los pasillos llenos de gente, banderas y pitos por todos lados, un sol abrasador. Y  la mayoría de los espectadores iban con Alemania“, cuenta Jose Alberto Álvarez Rodriguez, conocido como “Lungo”,  al rememorar ese día en el que se sumó a dar la vuelta olímpica en el campo del Azteca junto a Diego.

El “Lungo” es periodista deportivo y profesor de Educación Física, nacido en Victorica y hace años que reside en España. Revista BIFE se contactó con él para recordar los días en que Maradona llegó a la cúspide de su carrera. Ese mismo momento en el que el pampeano fue testigo presencial del comienzo de la leyenda. Atrás quedaría el canto de la 12 que rezaba: “Vale 10 palos verdes, se llama Maradona”, a partir de ese mes en México, su cotización sería invalorable, y pasaría a ser el “genio del futbol mundial”. Para siempre.

José no había llegado al mundial de México 86 como periodista, sino como hincha, y eso se dio gracias a la amistad con otro pampeano, el ex arquero de San Lorenzo y Ámerica de México, Nelson Festa. “Con Nelson habíamos trabajado juntos en Belgrano de Santa Rosa y luego él se volvió a México ya que su esposa era mejicana. Nelson era muy conocido en el ambiente futbolístico del país tras militar en equipos como el poderoso club América y el CD Zacatepec con el que salió campeón de liga y copa de México. Nelson y su señora regentaban el Restaurante El Pampero, cita del ambiente futbolístico mexicano y por donde pasaron muchas figuras del balompié de ese país”, detalla José sobre su visita a México para presenciar el que sería el segundo campeonato mundial para la Argentina.

Nelson era muy amigo del Director Deportivo del América llamado Panchito Hernández. A través de él pudimos visitar la concentración del equipo argentino en Coapa, barrio del sur del Distrito Federal donde estaba concentrada la Selección Argentina y cerca del Estadio Azteca

El pampeano disponía de algunos privilegios en aquella Copa del Mundo que con el paso del tiempo, cobraron más valor: “Nelson era muy amigo del Director Deportivo del América llamado Panchito Hernández. A través de él pudimos visitar la concentración del equipo argentino en Coapa, barrio del sur del Distrito Federal donde estaba concentrada la Selección Argentina y cerca del Estadio Azteca”, resalta.

 La selección de Carlos Salvador Bilardo no llegaba en su mejor forma para disputar el campeonato mundial en suelo Azteca. Había obtenido la clasificación con un agónico empate ante Perú en el estadio Monumental de Nuñez. “Nos tuvimos que ir del país rumbo a México escondidos”, declaró parte de ese plantel años más tarde. La Argentina no era favorita ni mucho menos, pero contaba con Diego, que con 25 años llegaba a ese campeonato en óptimas condiciones físicas y ejerciendo el rol de líder, luego de despojar de la capitanía a Daniel Pasarella. En la fase de grupos Argentina lograba 2 victorias ante Corea del Sur y Bulgaria, y un empate frente a Italia, con un gol imposible de Diego. En octavos el seleccionado de Bilardo, ya afianzado en su juego, se midió ante el combinado charrúa, Argentina lograba imponerse 1:0 frente a los uruguayos y avanzaba a cuartos de final.

“Ese miércoles 22 de junio de 1986 lo tengo grabado en mi memoria por ser testigo directo de aquel partido”, narra José sobre esa fecha de tanto peso para los argentinos. Ese 22 de junio, a las 12 hs, y en el Estadio Azteca, Diego se medía ante los ingleses. Ese partido daría nacimiento a dos marcas registradas: “La Mano de Dios” y el “Gol del Siglo”. “El primero fue como meterle la mano en el bolsillo a un inglés y sacarle una plata que no era de ellos; el segundo… tapó todo”, contaba el propio Maradona en 1996, al cumplirse 10 años de ese evento, y José, estuvo ahí: “El primer gol de Maradona y el segundo lo vimos desde el arco opuesto. El de la Mano de Dios no alcancé a ver con qué introdujo la pelota en la red, pero el segundo después de driblar a 6-7 ingleses y convertir, pasaron 5-6 segundos con el estadio enmudecido ante tamaña obra de arte y la gente explotó en una ovación que aún revivo”.

Argentina y Diego avanzaban en la Copa del Mundo. Argentina ahora si era candidata, y no había dudas de que Maradona era el responsable de eso. El seleccionado se enfrentaba contra Bélgica en semifinales. Y ahí, Diego, otra vez el Diez, con otros dos goles, dejaba en el camino a los diablos rojos europeos para meter a la Argentina en la final de México 86.

Argentina y Alemania, o Alemania y Argentina, porque como cuenta José, en el estadio “iban más para Alemania”, se medían en ese caluroso mediodía del 29 de junio. La albiceleste se imponía por dos goles. Un tanto marcado en el primer tiempo por Brown, y el otro a los diez minutos del complementario con la autoría de Valdano. Pero de dos corners, de dos pelotas paradas, llegaría el empate de los germanos. Dos goles de pelota parada era un pecado para un obsesivo de la planificación como Bilardo, quien dijo en más de una oportunidad que eso fue algo “imperdonable” para él. Y a 5 minutos del final, Diego le pone una pelota precisa a Burruchaga habilitandoló para marcar el tercer gol, ese gol que uno ve temerosamente cada vez que lo repiten en tv, porque la sensación de que la pelota se le va larga al delantero argentino es inevitable. Pero fue gol. Y fue la consagración mundial de Argentina y Maradona. Así como Diego dijo alguna vez que es uno de los pocos que sabe cuanto pesa la Copa del Mundo, José “Lungo” Álvarez puede decir que es uno de los poco que se metió en el campo de juego para dar la vuelta con Diego.

“A pesar que se hizo un cordón de efectivos alrededor del  campo y que en el foso que rodea el estadio en vez de agua había policías con bastones, me limité a saltar desde un muro de cemento, caer dentro del campo y correr hasta el centro del terreno donde festejaban los jugadores”, recuerda José a casi 34 años de aquel día en tierras aztecas. “Había gritos, abrazos, empujones, carreras de un lado a otro, etc. Sólo escuché  diálogos entre Pumpido y Brown, ‘lo logramos Tata, lo logramos’ , lo vi al profesor Fernando Signorini recogiendo hierba y guardándola en una bolsita de plástico, ‘lo hago en cada estadio que juega Diego, como recuerdo’ y soy testigo de la contestación de Jorge Valdano a un periodista de Televisa: ‘sólo se que soy el hombre más feliz del mundo ‘”.
