Si bien esta variante es más contagiosa (según estudios científicos se especula que un 70% más contagiosa), los especialistas señalan que no hay pruebas de que haya aumentado la gravedad de la enfermedad y remarcan que las vacunas son eficaces para combatirla.
“El Consorcio interinstitucional para la Secuenciación del genoma y estudios genómicos de SARS-COV-2, creado por el Ministerio de Ciencia, detectó en un viajero proveniente del exterior la variante del SARS-CoV-2 del Reino Unido. Ya se ha informado a las autoridades sanitarias”, señaló el titular de la cartera científica, Roberto Salvarezza.
Los investigadores del Proyecto Argentino Interinstitucional de Genómica de SARS-CoV-2 (PAIS) señalaron en su reporte de vigilancia activa de variantes del coronavirus que se registró el caso de “un argentino residente en el Reino Unido con antecedentes de viaje en el último tiempo a Austria y Alemania por razones laborales”.
Los especialistas precisaron que el pasajero arribó “asintomático” a Ezeiza a finales de diciembre pasado proveniente de Fráncfort: al realizarse el test en el Aeropuerto Ministro Pistarini “resultó positivo para antígenos de SARS-CoV-2.
“La secuenciación del gen S confirmó la presencia de la variante VOC 202012/01”, que se había descubierto en el Reino Unido.
“Es la primera vez que se detecta en el país” esta nueva cepa, destacaron los miembros del Proyecto PAIS.
La aparición de esta variante pone en alerta al Ministerio de Salud, ya que estudios científico indicó días atrás que la cepa británica del coronavirus es un 70 por ciento más contagiosa que la original porque se replica en la garganta.
Por otra parte, en el anterior reporte de vigilancia activa, los científicos habían indicado que la variante Río de Janeiro del COVID-19 “presentó múltiples introducciones al país, ocurridas al menos desde el mes de noviembre de 2020, y actualmente presentaría circulación local en baja frecuencia”.
Hasta el momento no se registró en el país la variante VOC 202012/02, que había sido detectada por primera vez en Sudáfrica.
