Según confirmó el Centro de Micología de la Facultad de Medicina, la primera víctima argentina de mucormicosis, la infección conocida como “hongo negro”, se llevó la vida de un paciente de 35 años, que había dado positivo de Covid-19, en la última semana de mayo.
Luján Cuesta, investigadora de Conicet e integrante del Centro, dijo en diálogo con C5N: “En los pacientes con coronavirus que están en terapia intensiva, se comportarían como pacientes inmunosuprimidos graves. Estos pacientes son más propensos a detener infecciones por agentes oportunistas, entre ellos hongos. Acá, el mucormicosis es uno de ellos”.
La víctima estaba internada en una clínica ubicada en Lomas de Zamora, sur del Gran Buenos Aires. Allí padecía la extraña enfermedad que surgió en los últimos meses alrededor del mundo y que ataca con más gravedad a quienes padecen o padecieron Covid-19.
Asimismo aclaró que “generalmente no está solamente asociado al Covid grave, sino también a pacientes diabéticos no controlados, con cetoacidosis diabética o acidosis metabólica, en distintos tipos de pacientes”.
“Tiene un tratamiento que puede llegar a ser relativamente eficaz cuando se diagnostica a tiempo”, dijo Cuesta -y continuó- “Pero no es tan fácil hacer el diagnóstico o la sospecha clínica”. En caso de detectarse temprano, “los pacientes pueden llegar a responder bien”. Y remarcó: “Esto significa que, por ejemplo, al paciente por ahí le tengan que desbridar parte de la piel que se encuentra afectada por este hongo, y además un tratamiento antifúngico”.
Por último explicó que “estas especies fúngicas se diseminan por los vasos sanguíneos generando infarto de los tejidos que colonizan y necrosis. Por eso el aspecto negro, que adquieren los tejidos que se encuentran colonizados por el hongo”.
