El gobierno argentino abandonó una demanda que los países del Grupo de Lima presentaron contra el regimen venezolano de Nicolás Maduro ante la Corte Penal Internacional por violación a los Derechos Humanos.
Esto ocurrió luego de la decisión de retirarse del Grupo de Lima el 24 de marzo, espacio conformado especialmente para condenar los abusos del gobierno venezolano y presionar par un cambio de gobierno con el auspicio del entonces presidente norteamericano, Donald Trump.
En la misiva, Argentina recalca que ese retiro es “sin perjuicio de las acciones que la Fiscalía lleva a cabo relativas a la situación de Venezuela conforme a lo establecido en el Estatuto de Roma, respetando la independencia judicial”.
La demanda había sido interpuesta por Canadá, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Perú y Argentina – con Mauricio Macri de presidente- en 2018, para que se investigara al régimen de Venezuela por la presunta comisión de delitos de lesa humanidad. Fue la primera vez que un grupo de Estados demandó a un tercero ante ese tribunal, cuya misión es juzgar a las personas acusadas de cometer crímenes de genocidio, guerra, agresión y lesa humanidad.
Desde Cancillería explicaron que “esto es consecuencia del retiro del Grupo de Lima. Independientemente de eso, el proceso sigue su curso, no depende de nosotros”.
La demanda había sido interpuesta por Canadá, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Perú y Argentina – con Mauricio Macri de presidente- en 2018, para que se investigara al régimen de Venezuela por la presunta comisión de delitos de lesa humanidad
Desde que asumió, Alberto Fernández no se sintió cómodo con la retórica confrontativa del Grupo de Lima pero decidió permanecer en disidencia hasta el cambio de gobierno en Estados Unidos. Con Biden en la Casa Blanca, el gobierno argentino espera que Washington descomprima la presión contra Caracas y empodere al Grupo de Contacto Internacional que promueve un solución dialogada y electoral de la crisis.
Alberto quiere mediar entre Biden y Maduro para poder ocupar un lugar de equilibrio que le permita contener tanto al kirchnerismo duro como a los sectores que no quiere un alineamiento de tipo bolivariano.
Si bien el gobierno defiende el informe de Bachelet en la ONU sobre la violación a los Derechos Humanos en Venezuela, Alberto dijo hace algunos días que el tema “había desaparecido de la agenda”, lo que alimentó nuevos rumores respecto a la negación del gobierno en torno a la situación política venezolana.
De todas formas, en la Rosada no creen que esto cambie la mirada oficial sobre los abusos del regimen de Maduro y entienden que hay que dejar de poner a Venezuela en el centro del debate público.
