Apareció un caso de carbunclo en La Pampa: el Senasa dio recomendaciones

Ante la detección de un caso positivo confirmado en bovinos de carbunclo en la provincia, el Servicio Nacional de Sanidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria (Senasa) brindó una serie de recomendaciones e informa a veterinarios, productores y público general, sobre esta enfermedad zoonótica infecciosa que afecta preferentemente a los rumiantes y es transmisible a otros animales y a las personas.

En este sentido, recuerda a los productores agropecuarios que el  carbunclo bacteridiano o Antrax es una enfermedad causada por una bacteria, el Bacillus anthracis, que se transmite de los animales al hombre pero que no se contagia entre personas enfermas o convalecientes.

El signo clínico característico que presentan los animales consiste en la salida de sangre por los orificios naturales. Con la sangre, se eliminan los esporos que quedan en el suelo y de este modo son ingeridos por otros rumiantes al alimentarse.

Ante la detección de casos o sospecha de enfermedad, debe notificarse a la oficina del Senasa más cercana para la implementación de las medidas de control y prevención apropiadas: la vacunación de todo el ganado considerado en riesgo, deposición segura de los restos de animales muertos, e indicación de las medidas de protección para las personas que trabajen en contacto con animales.

Debido a que los esporos son la forma de resistencia de la bacteria en el ambiente, donde puede sobrevivir por más de 50 años, se recomienda la vacunación anual del ganado en los establecimientos agropecuarios con antecedentes de carbunclo, así como usar siempre guantes para las tareas de campo y no compartir los cuchillos que se emplean para los trabajos con los animales y en la casa.

El hombre se contagia cuando manipula animales enfermos o sus restos. Existen tres formas en que el hombre puede infectarse: al consumir carne de animales enfermos (carbunclo digestivo o intestinal), al inhalar esporos dispersos en el medio ambiente (carbunclo respiratorio o pulmonar), o por penetración de estos a través de heridas en la piel (carbunclo dérmico o grano malo).

El período de incubación del carbunco bacteridiano en bovinos es de 14 días y no existe evidencia científica de que los animales transmitan esta enfermedad antes de la aparición de los primeros signos clínicos y patológicos de la misma.

Para prevenir el contagio se recomienda:

  • No manipular animales con signos de estar enfermos o muertos.
  • No quemar los cadáveres debido a que provoca la diseminación de esporos y el contagio por vía aerógena. Recomendando la eliminación de cadáveres y material contaminado por la técnica de tapado controlado.
  • Consumir productos cárnicos provenientes de frigoríficos o mataderos habilitados y fiscalizados por personal veterinario.
