El presidente de la Casa de la Moneda, Rodolfo Gabrielli está definiendo los detalles de la emisión con el titular del Banco Central. Y lo que sería además un regreso de los personajes destacados a los billetes. Si bien la emisión depende del Central en su calidad de autoridad monetaria, es la Casa de la Moneda la que se encarga de la impresión. Es la que tiene “la maquinita”.
El motivo se debe a la escalada inflacionaria. Cuando se emitió el billete de 1000, el mismo valía US$55, hoy vale poco más de US$8. La emisión del billete de 5000 significaría igualar ese valor en dólares que tuvo el billete de 1000 en 2017.
“La dinámica inflacionaria lleva a que en tiempos de pandemia la gente demande mucho más efectivo por una cuestión precautoria”, explica Paolicchi. “No sabe cuándo va a poder ir al banco, si va a poder salir. La gente prefiere quedarse con el efectivo en el bolsillo para enfrentar comprar futuras, entonces tiende a sacar cada vez más y más billetes y los bancos tienen que reponer cada vez más seguido y eso genera un costo no sólo para las entidades sino para la Casa de la Moneda que tiene que imprimir esa plata”, explica Juan Paollocchi, analista de Eco Go.
Los banqueros también están en las filas de los defensores de la idea, ya que el transporte de caudales es uno de los costos más importantes que deben afrontar. “Genera costos innecesarios en recursos humanos, que desvían la atención de tareas más productivas y aumenta el costo de transporte. Además se terminarían los problemas de faltante de dinero en los cajeros automáticos en feriados largos por ejemplo, ya que aumentaría la capacidad de carga y sin ningún costo adicional por parte de los bancos”.
La idea no es nueva. Pesce ya la había lanzado al aire a fines del año pasado causando revuelo por el costo que tendría renovar la familia íntegra de billetes. Pero lo que no es nueva tampoco es la idea del bolsillo empobrecido.
Desde 1970 fuimos perdiendo en el camino 13 ceros en nuestra moneda. Y en los últimos 70 años, sólo en 14 tuvimos inflación menor a 10%. Los argentinos sabemos que no es a los billetes a los que hay que tenerles miedo.
